Warranty & returns

We stand behind what we sell.

Every generator we carry comes backed by the manufacturer's warranty. Here's what that means, what it covers, and what to do if something goes wrong.

🛡

2–3 year manufacturer warranty on all units

Every generator sold by American Power Direct includes a manufacturer's limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Coverage periods vary by brand — most portable units carry 2 years, standby units typically carry 3 years.

What the warranty covers

Manufacturer warranties generally cover:

  • Defects in materials and workmanship — parts that fail under normal use
  • Engine and alternator components — the core systems, not just cosmetic parts
  • Parts and labor costs for covered repairs during the warranty period

Coverage begins on the date of original retail purchase. Check your specific unit's documentation for exact terms — they vary by brand and model.

What the warranty does not cover

  • Normal wear and tear (spark plugs, filters, oil, belts)
  • Damage caused by improper use, storage, or maintenance
  • Damage from running the unit without oil or with incorrect fuel
  • Cosmetic damage that doesn't affect function
  • Units that have been modified or repaired by unauthorized service centers
  • Freight damage — handled separately through the carrier claim process

How to make a warranty claim

Warranty claims are processed directly with the manufacturer's service network. Here's the process:

  1. 1Contact us first. Email info@americanpowerdirect.com with your order number, a description of the issue, and photos if applicable. We'll confirm your coverage and connect you with the right manufacturer contact.
  2. 2Work with the manufacturer's service team. They'll direct you to an authorized service center in your area or walk you through the repair/replacement process.
  3. 3Keep your proof of purchase. You'll need your original order confirmation and delivery receipt for any warranty claim.

30-day return policy

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery, provided the unit meets the following conditions:

  • The unit is unused — never started, fueled, or operated
  • The unit is in its original, undamaged packaging
  • You contact us before shipping anything back

We cannot accept returns on generators that have been started, fueled, or used in any way. Return freight is the buyer's responsibility unless the unit arrived damaged due to freight handling.

To start a return, email info@americanpowerdirect.com with your order number and reason. We'll send you return instructions within one business day.

If your unit arrives damaged

Freight damage is handled differently from warranty claims. If your generator arrives with visible damage:

  • Do not sign a clean receipt. Note the damage specifically on the bill of lading before signing.
  • Photograph the damage to the packaging and the unit itself.
  • Contact us within 48 hours of delivery at info@americanpowerdirect.com.

We handle the freight claim with the carrier on your behalf. Signing a clean receipt for a damaged unit forfeits the ability to file a claim.
